HP Community Pick: Chris Corsano by Jon Kortland

HP Community Pick is a semi-regular blog series where community members have the chance to highlight a show they’re stoked about. This pick is brought to you by Jon Kortland of Iron Lung on the band Chris Corsano who was scheduled to perform on Monday, February 5, 2024 with locals Elleanor Burke, and Queam. However due to severe weather the show was canceled. Regardless here’s what Jon had to say. Read all about it below.

GO SEE CHRIS CORSANO! I Implore you!!! I’m no drummer. I’m no percussionist. But I am a person who is obsessed with sounds both rhythmic and percussive. Even if you only have the slightest inclination toward either of those things, do yourself and anyone who will listen, a favor and witness how music can alter the mental/physical plane. Maybe one minute you think you are hearing a haunted string section, perhaps a funerary gamelan march only to have your eyes and nerves deceive the assumption.A Free(?) Experimental(?) Avant-Garde(?) Noise(?) behemoth- he has previously and currently manifests all aforementioned realms among such otherworldly musical dignitaries as Bill Orcutt, Alan Licht, Thurston Moore, Mick Flower, Steve Baczkowski, Evan Parker and far too many others to list here. I know a few of you were entirely laid to waste by Han Bennink a few years back when he toured with THE EX. As reference, Scraps and Shadow, an album Corsono recorded with Joe McPhee, features a track entitled “For Han Bennink”. Check out the discography! Watch some videos! But most of all GET TO THE GIG and take in what an absolute solo drum bombardment can feel like!!!”
