The Mousetraps Get Domestic!

The Mousetraps Get Domestic!

The Mousetraps were holding a meeting over yet another cup of coffee, hoping the caffeine might fuel their creative minds. Trap pulled the sleeve off her coffee cup and said “We should find another use for all of the coffee sleeves we abandon every day.” Mouse was intrigued by the suggestion, but found herself at a loss for ideas. As they got to talking, they thought: if they couldn’t find an alternate use for the coffee sleeves, why not prevent further wasting of sleeves? Thus, another brilliant caffeine-driven idea was born.

*This week, we recommend listening to the Black Eyes self-titled debut album. For a coffee-related project, it makes perfect sense to listen to a band whose spastic energy implies that they have already had way too much coffee.

Re-useable Coffee Sleeves!!

Time: 10 minutes

Supplies: felt (2 or 3 different colors), scissors, needle and thread or glue, 1 button (glue serves as a substitute for a button, see instructions), a paper coffee sleeve

1. Open up the paper coffee sleeve so that it lays flat.
2. Using the coffee sleeve as a pattern, cut one piece of felt around it.
3. Using a different color of felt, cut out any shape you desire. We used a whale.
4. Sew or glue the shape onto the center of the main felt piece.
5. Using the paper sleeve as a guide, mark where the ends overlap with a pin or piece of tape.
6. Sew the button onto the bottom flap in the middle of the overlapping area. (If you don’t want to use a button, you can sew or glue the overlapping edges together)
7. Cut a slit the size of the button in the top flap where it overlaps with the button.
8. Pull the button through the slit you cut and slide your re-useable cozy onto your coffee cup.
9. Post your ideas for how to reuse paper coffee sleeves, and we might use it on a future blog!!
