Homebodies no. 27 – Jo-Lynn Heusser

Homebodies explores the personal spaces of community members, the artworks and interesting objects they’ve collected through the years, and how those pieces live with them every day. Edition number 27 comes to us from Sparks, Nevada, with Jo-Lynn Heusser, local artist and fashion legend. Working primarily in fabrics and fibers, Jo-Lynn has made a name for themselves for their bold colors, textures, and objects that are incorporated through out their wardrobe. Heusser is showing work in the Patchwork Exhibition in Serva Pool up until June 29!

Most of Jo-Lynn’s collection has been acquired over the many years of thrifting around town as well as picking up fun objects here and there at Bad Apple where they currently work.

1. Tank Girl promotional poster my friend Antonia won at the movie premiere surrounded by endless trinkets.

2. To the left of the Tank Girl poster is a limited print by Hannah Liz Huntley I got at one of the first High Desert markets I had ever been to.

3. To the right of the Tank Girl poster are art prints I’ve collected at Bad Apple Vintage over the years.

4. One of my many gallery walls! Featuring art from local artists, I have a commission by Bijou Bell of me riding my horse Rosa with my young horse Suerte following us with my deceased cat Loki riding her. Lots of art that I have thrifted and gifts from friends.

5. The bunny rabbit on my bed is “Sucker Bunny” by best homie I got when I was a baby. I still sleep with him.

6. This horse tapestry is from Society 6 featuring art by an artist whose name I forgot. It’s one of my absolute favorite things to look at. I just think horses are the prettiest most gorgeous creatures on the planet!

7. Tapestry is surrounded by a gift from Francesca Martinez, some of my biggest plants and more art from Bad Apple Vintage!

8. I have a small closet where I keep my cat’s litter boxes that I like to fill with cat themed art so they have nice things to look at while they’re in there. Also makes cleaning the litter boxes more aesthetic.

9. I like this picture a lot because I love everything in my house and there are a lot of things in my living room. The big clown bank I thrifted from UCP and the giant horse picture behind the TVs I got from the Goodwill on Oddie.

10. A portion of my mantel, featuring a horse skull I found on Virginia Peak, a taxidermied fish my husband got me as a gift and my Garbage Pail Kids mystery figure collection.

11. One of my favorite pieces of commissioned artwork by Erin O’Kelly @hag_attack on IG with a Bronwyn Lorelia print behind it, surrounded by trinkets of course.

12. A fun corner in my closet room and where I do my sewing.

13. A portion of one of my bathroom walls with thrifted an original art, plus a bunch of random earrings and trinkets.
