Being so close to his birthday, I figured that I would bring Hunter S. Thompson into the territory. Hunter Stockton Thompson was born on July 18th 1937 and shot himself on Feb. 20 2005. The most famous book of HST is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The book kills and so do both movie adaptations of it. But my favorite book of HST is the one I want to delve into because there is plenty of writing out there about Fear and Loathing. my favoite book is called kingdom of fear and it is one of the most inspiring pieces of work to come from HST. Kingdom of Fear is less of a story and more of a collection of stories under one theme. One of the most stand out lines in it is “You don’t really know anyone until you’ve seen them in fear” That’s a heavy line. KOF came out in 2003 and chronicles HST getting in arguments with presidents, celebraties and lawyers. It chronicles HST facing a faulty sexual assault charge that lasts for a very long time that reveals some people who were close to HST selling him out when the going gets tough. But through articulate confrontation, anger and an insatiable urge to make things better for the world, HST comes out on top. Definately check out Kingdom of Fear. Anyone in the Reno area should check out the Hunter S Thompson celebration on his birthday on July 18 at the very cool Dharma books.
