In preparation for next week’s Sunland #7 in which were talking about Death in Culture, we built a playlist full of teenage tragedy songs or “splatter platter” as it was known. As a genre that saw its heyday in the late 50’s and early 60’s, these songs deal with the death of young people – usually sung from the perspective of the sweetheart left behind (or another witness), or from the dead or dying person. It’s really fascinating as a genre, dig in here….
