Community Show Pick – Jeff Rosenstock by Ray

HP Community Pick is a semi-regular blog series where community members have the chance to highlight a show they’re stoked about. This pick is brought to you by Ray, who plays in Bozone, Best Friends, and Buckaroo, and is a Jeff Rosenstock super fan who wishes more than anything to see Bomb the Music Industry once before they die.

“Jeff Rosenstock is my favorite musician of all time, and I think they should be yours too. Their spot-on meta commentary about the greater American music scene and contemporary social issues has helped me navigate a world that becomes increasingly psychotic and confusing as the years drag on. Their songs encompass the entire spectrum of human emotion that can occur when you play in a band with your best friends. From the good times (“The First Time I Met Sanawon”) to the bad (“IT CEASES TO BE ‘WHINING’ IF YOU STOP ‘SHITTING BLOOD’”), there’s a song you’ll resonate with if you’ve ever had the pleasure of existing as a human in the corporation known as the United States.

Jeff is a kind person who has spent a lot of their time and energy uplifting others through benefit shows, social and civil rights awareness, and promoting the accessibility of music through DIY channels. Music is serious business (if you’re a dork), and I think that’s why I like all of Jeff’s projects. They’re the perfect mix of sonically unabashed silly fun (see “King of Minneapolis, Pt. I & II”) and heart-wrenching lyrics about the ennui of living in a crappy city fresh out of a breakup (see “Brooklyn Pool” by Kudrow). I love every era of Jeff’s music and can’t wait to hear what the future holds. (I am partial to the drum machine era, though.)

Live Jeff Rosenstock shows are incredibly energetic and fun. Every time I’ve been to one, I’ve had one of the best times of my life, and I’m excited to see them on May 30th. If you’ve never been, now’s your chance.”
