No Oscar for Eddie or Johnny…

From Sound on the Sound:
“Despite winning a Golden Globe and far reaching critical acclaim, Eddie Vedder’s soundtrack for “Into the Wild” was deemed ineligible for an Academy Award Nomination. The reason given, a wild oxymoron if there ever was one “because the score is too song based.” Huh?!? Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood, who was also expected to have a soundtrack in Oscar contention (for “There Will Be Blood”), was also deemed ineligible.”

Having just seen There Will Be Blood, this makes me laugh–in that annoyed sort of way.
