In January 2025, the Holland Project staff visited Las Vegas to meet some new and old friends and orgs. We came back totally inspired and wanted to highlight the artists, curators, and community leaders who shared their time and space with us. Huge shout out to the warm and welcoming community we met in Southern Nevada! We’ll be back soon.
INAUDITX curated by Isaac Quezada with Scrambled Eggs @ SPCKRFT STUDIOS
“Inauditx” (unheard) was a one-day group exhibition celebrating noise with 18 artists from diverse mediums and backgrounds. Artists were grouped into trios by the curator, Isaac Quezada, and came together to create collaborative works that were both sound and sculpture (and sometimes performance). Accompanying the reception were performances by Vegas-based musicians including Spring Breeding, John McVay, Miles Winfree, and Nabiya.

ThirtyThree Gallery and LIVING BLACK PILLARS
We were honored to have a meeting with Chase McCurdy, an artist, curator, and the gallerist behind ThirtyThree Gallery located in the Historic Westside neighborhood of Las Vegas. The gallery hosts community-driven events and workshops in addition to excellent curated exhibitions. Chase is also the artist behind the beautiful sculptures Living Black Pillars located in a public park just around the corner from ThirtyThree, the Historic Westside Legacy Park.

UNLV MFA Studios
Thank you to our friends Bailey Anderson and Iulia Octavia for the tour of their studios and the UNLV. We had always heard about how UNLV converted an old Carl’s Jr into MFA art studios, so we were excited to see for ourselves. Bailey and Iulia are both MFA candidates working primarily in sculpture.

LEFT OF CENTER // SOUTH SQUARE STUDIO
Two additional gallery spaces we visited included Left Of Center Gallery and South Square Studios. LOC is a well-established and respected institution in the Vegas area, housing gallery spaces, workshop studios, community meeting space, a library, and a stunning collection of African folk art. Pictured here are some of the works on view in their permanent collection. Additionally, we attended an opening at Soiuth Square Studios – a DIY home gallery exhibiting the works of Ika Pearl in “Flies on My Rubies”.

Cloud House
Love your neighbors! Cloud House is an artist studio offering free workshops, advice, hang-out space, and mutual aid – and it all lives in a family’s garage. Run by Hue, a Vegas-based artist and cultural worker, it all started as a thesis project and blossomed over the pandemic into a meaningful neighborhood and artist resource.

We forgot to get pix (oops!) but wanted to shout out artist Brent Holmes, Alexys Keller, geo, as well as Available Space Art Projects (ASAP) for spending time with us on our trip – looking forward to seeing you again soon. <3
