House of Fools
July 26 – August 2, 2025
Curated by Camryn Maher
In the king’s court, not only do games provide a challenge for those with intellectual prowess and strategic skill, but they also offer important morale boosts and social bonding opportunities to keep things at the castle flowing smoothly, despite any undertones suggesting otherwise. Peasants and royals, jesters and knaves can all put aside their differences to share in a battle of wits, can’t they? Rabbit hunts, wild cards, liar’s mates, four of a kind, flushes, bluffs, dead blinds, and dealer’s choice. In the House of Fools, everyone has something to share, and everyone has something to hide.
House of Fools was a curated group art exhibition of physical game and play-themed work that prioritizes medieval aesthetics. The artwork and space design referenced the art, architecture, dress aesthetics, play, and politics of the Middle Ages, as well as historical and modern player-pastime game design. This exhibition was part of Jester’s Gambit, a multi-stop and multi-faceted art and music festival on July 26, 2025.
