Serva Pool Flux: Tension Sanctuary
June 27 @ 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Free
HP Galleries is pleased to present Tension Sanctuary by Maria Samuelson in June, with a closing reception on June 27, 11am-2pm in conjunction with the closing reception of “Cross Reference” in the HP Gallery. Maria Samuelson’s work in textile installation and sculpture utilizes bra and lingerie-making materials, engaging themes of reclaiming and reimagining heretofore externally determined, corporatized, and generic standards of beauty, femininity, and shape that have been foisted on women and then presumed to be intimate and hidden. Samuelson’s project Tension Sanctuary explores personal associations, cultural impositions, and political implications that are held in tension; these networks are pulled, stretched, and stitched into one aesthetic presentation that points to womanhood, motherhood, and a tenuous architecture of experiences rather than human form.
This exhibition is part of the Holland Project Gallery’s Serva Pool Flux series, which presents projects by regional artists in a pop-up style format through the summer/fall. Learn more.
