“Jones Ranch Egypt” On View

In collaboration with Las Vegas-based artist Brent Holmes and Double Scoop magazine, HP Galleries is excited to announce “Jones Ranch Egypt” on view in the HP Serva Pool Gallery from August 28 – September 28, 2024. This solo exhibition by Holmes features drawings that explore the artist’s relationship with mark-making, Western / cowboy roots, and the African sculptural / spiritual traditions of his ancestors. Each image is based (however loosely) on a symbolic African sculpture and a piece of American Western art. This series highlights the cultural erasure of black and brown bodies presented within iconic depictions of the West and the “Cowboy” while interrogating the African artifacts collection industry as it relates to the collection and display of tribal artifacts by private and institutional collections.

Gallery hours are Wed-Fri, 12-6pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm. The artist will be present on September 28, 2024 and presenting an artist talk as part of Double Scoop’s ‘Scoop Fest’ programming.
