Brutus VIII (Slow Hollows, Current Joys) is the rejection of soft indie-rock band roots into no wave experimentation. With nihilistic lyrical overtones and jarring and oftentimes abrasive live performances the project is an exploration of how ridiculous machismo-ism is. In its most distilled form, Brutus VIII is a reflection of how society both stokes the flames of angry chauvinism and uses escapism to stave off the feelings of being trapped in a cycle of helplessness.

Mainstay figures of the west coast desert underground, Spitting Image play lush, driving psych-punk guitar spells—leaping from unhinged hardcore, to Kraut Motorik, to wistful Laurel Canyon, to angular post-punk, and back. Based out of Reno, Nevada, Spitting Image released several 7” and cassette EPs before members temporarily split ways, working on various visual art and musical projects in the South and Midwest. 2019 saw members’ return to the West and the release of the “This Not This” EP and tour. Spitting Image have performed alongside Iceage, Ceremony, Sheer Mag, Moaning, Spiritual Cramp, Surf Curse, and Fearing among others, and have just wrapped up their full-length LP, Full Sun, produced by Tim Green (Nation of Ulysses, The Fucking Champs) at Louder Studios in Grass Valley, CA.
