Volcanoes Closing Reception

June 7, 2019 @ 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The Holland Project Gallery is pleased to present a venue-wide group exhibition curated by Wendy Kveck of Settlers + Nomads, based out of Las Vegas, NV. The exhibition, Volcanoes, explores contemporary feminism and the power, force, and agency of individual and collective voices and bodies through image, storytelling, biography and language. Today’s online feminist communities are able to share powerful and personal stories that are connected and amplified through social media and the use of a hashtag. Similarly, this exhibition brings together a varied grouping of figurative and text themed objects, paintings, sculptures, photographs, and drawings ultimately connected by the repetition of alternating voices telling stories of lived experience – what is inscribed onto our bodies by others and ourselves.

Participating artists include: Catherine Borg, Cara Cole, Ashley Hairston Doughty, Noelle Garcia, Carolyn Hopkins, Danielle Kelly, Wendy Kveck, Sarah Magida, Natani Notah, Krystal Ramirez, and Erin Stellmon.

Volcanoes takes place from May 15 – June 15, 2019 in the Main Holland Project Gallery and Serva Pool Gallery located at 140 Vesta St., Reno, NV. A closing reception will be held on Friday, June 7 from 5-9pm with a brief discussion considering themes addressed in the exhibition at 5:30pm, followed by artist performances throughout the evening. Performances will include a reading by Danielle Kelly, a pow wow-inspired dance performed by Noelle Garcia, and Guns of Steel, a community performance organized by Erin Stellmon.
