By the Seat of Your Pants: Getting Started with Stop Motion Animation

Do you have a story in mind that’s begging to be brought to life? Do you like making things by hand? Have you got loads of patience that you’re just waiting to put to use? If so, this class is for you!

Stop motion animation, made by setting up moveable objects and using them to take a (very) long series of still photographs, is now more accessible than ever. In this class, we will use paper cutouts as subjects, simple DIY setups, and a smartphone/app to learn the basics of making 2D stop motion animation from home.

We are so excited for California-based artist Lea Zalinskis to teach us her ways and give a crash corse in stop-motion animation. Lea’s artwork is delicate and intricate paper cuts, which she animates into whimsical narratives. This is a virtual workshop opportunity, with a template and a basic kit provided and available for pick-up or shipping. Each participant will leave the workshop having completed their very own short stop-motion video.

Required Tools:
-Computer/laptop with Zoom installed
-Smartphone or tablet with Stop Motion Studio app
-Two basic light sources (i.e. clamp lights, desk/house lamps, etc.)
