Synchronized Mapping Of Ghosts is a sound + space performance extension of Something Unfinished About Us: Traces of a Particulate Configuration, intended as further exploration into fragment configuration beyond the physical. Music sampling traces direct links to disparate histories and timescapes to create contemporary mythologies. S.M.O.G. will feature artists who work with repurposed + fragmented sounds, including special guests Cities Aviv and Rhamier Balagoon. The performances will coexist without hard boundaries, and may spill over into one another. This is a spatial takeover, spanning the gallery + showspace. Drift, follow the traces, vibrations, and settle, till another gust moves you.
The NYC-based/Memphis-born rapper and producer WGM began their experimental/spiritual project Cities Aviv over a decade ago. The hardcore frontman-turned-rapper has released over ten albums under the moniker and appears on numerous projects with collaborators such as Show Me the Body, Mykki Blanco, Xhosha, among others. The music is textured, ambient, soulful, and rings with Memphis and DIY spirit.
Rhamier Shaka Balagoon was born in Queens, New York. Growing up, Rhamier established himself locally as a multi-faceted artist, writing and producing songs at an early age. Modeling themselves after the likes of Q-Tip, J.Dilla, Sly Stone and D’Angelo, Rhamier displays their influences with a laid-back vocal delivery and production techniques in which they write, produce and record their own material. It’s funky, dragging feets, forever standing on the verge of something.
