June Canedo Exhibition + Sunland Panel

April 7, 2018 @ 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

We are thrilled to announce Brazilian/NYC photographer June Canedo will be featured in the Holland Gallery in April, with an opening reception on Saturday, April 7 at 5PM.

June Canedo is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York via Brazil and South Carolina. Sua prática considera as implicações psicológicas de migração e assimilação cultural. Her work has exhibited in London, New York, Budapest, Berlin, New Orleans, and Melbourne. She is a member of Chroma, a collective which aims to formalize networks of social and economic mobility through a dialogue of resistance, action, and healing. Recently, her work was exhibited at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and with Chroma Canedo curated a two-day conference on self-preservation as it relates to women of color at the Knockdown Center in New York.

Children Don’t Immigrate They Migrate is a multidisciplinary effort which materializes memory to convey truth about Canedo’s relationship to citizenship and belonging. Usando fotografia, vídeo e vernáculo pessoal Canedo apresenta um mapa de identidade that invites the audience to visualize the ways in which bordered systems affect the psychological and physical landscapes das pessoas que os cruzam.

Immediately following the reception, will be a Sunland panel focusing on working women of color in both cultural and professional realms. The panel includes Maya Claiborne, Mahedi Anjuman, Francesca Martinez, and Vanessa Vancour and will be moderated by Felicia Perez.
