“Heads Up” Closing Reception

Join us for the closing reception of Heads Up, a solo exhibition by local artist Patrick Barry currently on view in the Holland Project Satellite Gallery located inside Cafe Capello (248 W 1st St #250, Reno, NV).
About the exhibition:
“Heads Up” is a collection of pieces created in appreciation of individuals who have influenced me, and whose spirits have recently departed. Creative presentations were always a conversation we all shared, and individual style was always something we reinforced among each other. Materials used are wood, plexiglass, house paint, spray paint, paper, and charcoal. The pieces are intended to be hung higher than most pieces, encouraging viewers to look up as they interact with the work. So try and look up and look out for the people you care about.
Muck ~ We were 15-ish? I found myself at Sagewind, and so did Muck. During our juvenile mandated classes, I noticed that muck and I were just drawing the whole time. While walking past each other, we would side eye each other’s sketches. Soon we realized we were both into drawing characters. That connection was the spark of a very long friendship. Later in our lives we found ourselves living close to each other in the Valley of the Sun (Sun Valley, NV). Art was still running through his veins.
Orcs ~ We met in Parr, we shared the same birthday in Parr. Different years, different styles. He had the materials, one large legal yellow pad of paper and pencils. We both had time, one longer than the other. It was always a laugh sitting at the bench drawing for hours, conversing and getting to know each other. One Saturday afternoon there was a solar eclipse. Lacking the proper supplies needed to view the event safely, we watched the moment through our jail shirts. We burned our eyes.
About the artist:
Patrick Barry is a self-taught artist based in Reno, Nevada. With deep roots in graffiti, his work also includes watercolor and mixed media pieces that often incorporate found/reclaimed materials in their presentation. Patrick’s work is heavily influenced by personal life experiences and the people who surround him. He has been included in numerous exhibitions in the Holland Project Galleries and has also shown at Never Ender Gallery, Renaissance Reno, and out in the streets.
