Artist Discussion for Häsler R. Gómez: In The Land of Milk and Honey

June 21, 2018 @ 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Please join us for a panel discussion lead by the artist Häsler R. Gómez in conjunction with his solo exhibition In the Land of Milk and Honey. The closing reception for the exhibition will be 6PM-8PM with the discussion starting at 6:30PM sharp in the Serva Pool Gallery, located at The Holland Project, 140 Vesta Street, Reno, NV.

The work in Milk and Honey begins to suss out how we personally and politically relate to ideas of gender, race, ethnicity, class, and American/immigrant identity. The artist manipulates, destroys, and creates facsimiles of domestic objects that inhabit, make up, or construct the home, objects of our daily existence. Through this process, Gómez reveals what is often unseen or unheard, yet constantly occurring beneath the surface of our collective experiences.

Häsler R. Gómez was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala in 1993. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Art’s in Studio Art and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno. Gómez’s work predominantly deals with issues of personal, political, and social desire. He utilizes, transforms, and destroys domestic objects and materials in order to create works that give voice and physicality to what is often unseen or unheard.
