Chuck Berry in Jet Lag! zine, 1980

We came across this AWESOME thing via Mike Nipper in The Stranger:

“In 1980, a local St. Louis zine, Jet Lag!, interviewed one of the inventors of rock and roll, Mister Chuck Berry, and asked him to review a handful of then contemporary punk and power pop singles. He reviews the Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, the Clash, 20/20, the Ramones, Dave Edmunds, but my fave is his take on Wire’s “I Am The Fly” and Joy Divisions’s “Unknown Pleasures.””

It’s a super interesting interview that covers all sorts of gems aside from the rad reviews — which really are a MUST READ– including the fact that Chuck Berry wrote music for teens: “I always keep my eyes and ears open to what kids are up to and I interpret their feelings.” Check out the interview below or go HERE for the original post (click the images to enlarge).chuck n debbie sept80-10-11 sept80-12-13
